Fragile Connections – Fragments of a Lover’s Discourse
2006-2007 (as long as the love story lasted)
“Fragile Connections: Fragments of a Lover’s Discourse” (2006-7) is a parable of love relationships in contemporary times.
I capture the interference, or ‘noise’ in the fractured digital image in stillshots captured from webcam conversations with my lover as a means to reflect on the fragile nature of long-distance love relationships.
The title is inspired by Roland Barthes’ homonymous book “A Lover’s Discourse: Fragments” composed of a list of fragments of literature and philosophy as gestures of a lover’s discourse. At long last, the relationship, concluded in real life, ends with a sequence of disappearance, in an effort of ‘defragmenting’ these lovers’ discourse.
